Southeastern Illinois College Ella Elizabeth Hise Museum of Regional Art

Southeastern Illinois College and William C. Hise, donor, selected BHDG Architects to design a new 8,000 sf museum dedicated to the preservation and display of artwork native to the lower Ohio Valley region in memory of the late Ella Elizabeth Hise. The museum includes multiple gallery spaces (including Exhibition and Collection spaces), visitor services, flexible learning environment and community engagement areas, art storage and conservation spaces, shipping and receiving, etc. The Museum was designed to become a new focal point of the college campus, incorporating the architectural vernacular of the existing campus with modern design elements and materials. The building is situated on a prominent campus corner and is significantly elevated above the surrounding site, establishing an expansive view of the surrounding campus and community.
