Job Title: Construction Observer

Location: Southern Illinois

Job Type: Full-Time

Salary: Commensurate with Experience

Position Summary

BHDG Architects is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Observer to join our team in Southern Illinois. The ideal candidate will be responsible for monitoring and documenting construction activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, local regulations, and safety standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in construction, construction management, and/or architecture looking to be part of important projects in the Southern Illinois area with possible travel to projects in Tennessee and Kentucky.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Observe daily construction activities on job sites
  • Monitor contractor work for compliance with plans, specifications, and safety regulations
  • Document project progress, including daily reports and photographic records
  • Communicate effectively with project designers, subcontractors, and owners
  • Review and report on materials testing, erosion control measures, and traffic control setup
  • Verify measurements, quantities, and placement of materials with relation to contractor pay applications
  • Attend progress meetings and provide regular updates to project managers

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in construction observation or inspection
  • Strong knowledge of construction practices, safety standards, and local codes
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Job Title: Project Architect:

The successful applicant will be proactive driven, innovative, and articulate.  Essential Duties and responsibilities of this position are:

  • Participation in the design process and ability to create strong technical documents reflecting the design intent.
  • Display knowledge of industry standards, building codes, trends, and architectural advancements
  • Well rounded knowledge of the architecture profession and workflow
  • Knowledge of building components, construction materials, standards, and codes
  • Develop and support client relationships
  • Participate in the development of technical drawings utilizing industry standard softwares
  • Write Technical Specifications utilizing various software including MasterSpec, SpecsIntact, etc.
  • Create cost estimates utilizing RS Means Estimating Software
  • Create drawing mark-ups for emerging architects and draftspersons to execute
  • Observe construction progress and provide construction administration services
  • Lead the Quality Control process on projects
  • Mentor junior staff

 

Job Title: Project Manager:

The successful applicant will be proactive driven, innovative, and articulate.  Essential Duties and responsibilities of this position are:

  • Develop and support client relationships
  • Organize and properly sequence the activities of a project team throughout the design and construction process
  • Creative problem solving in managing construction developments
  • Observe construction progress and provide construction administration services
  • Participate in the development of technical drawings utilizing industry standard softwares

 

Required Qualifications

Project Architect:

8 years minimum experience as a licensed practicing architect.  Additional Qualifications include:

  • Accredited (NAAB) Bachelor and / or Master of Architecture
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, etc.
  • Positive and Collaborative Attitude
  • Strong Communication, Presentation, and Organizational skills
  • Growth Mindset
  • Willingness to occasionally travel depending upon project specific requirements

 

Project Manager:

Licensure is not required but preferred.  5 years minimum experience as a project manager is required.  Additional Qualifications include:

  • Degree in Architecture
  • Positive and Collaborative Attitude
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Growth Mindset
  • Willingness to occasionally travel depending upon project specific requirements.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience on State and Local Government Projects
  • Experience on DoD and Federal Agency Projects
  • Proficiency in building modeling renderings utilizing industry standard softwares
  • PMP Certification
  • Experience / Certification with Sustainable Organizations – LEED / WELL AP, etc.
